The Sacred Dancers of Angkor will perform an homage to the exquisite and rarely seen ReoungPreah Thong-Neang Neak. This classical dance was first choreographed by Queen Kossamak (mother of the late King Sihanouk) in the 1940s for the Royal Ballet of Cambodia, adapted in 2003 by her granddaughter Princess Buppha Devi, former Prima of the Royal Ballet, Cambodia’s “living treasure” and Patron of the NKFC Conservatoire. This story depicts the legend of the birth of Cambodia through the symbolic figures of Preah Thong (Kaundinya I) and Neang Neak (Soma, daughter of the King of Nagas) from whose marriage came the birth of ‘Kambuja’.
In addition the troupe will also perform two short folk dances (robam) the Story of the Forest Doveand The Capture of the Elephant.
